ASHLEY AND MIKE – THE QUESTION…(photos by yaira)

She’s not a morning person. Hates getting up early. Loathes the alarm clock. And most definitely enjoys sleeping in. So when Ashley met Mike she did away with her traditional alarm clock and Mike became her new one instead.

Every morning he leaves the house before she does. Before she’s even awake. Still lost off in dream land. And every morning Mike kisses Ashley goodbye. Gentle enough not to wake her because he knows she’s not quite ready to wake up just yet. So he grabs his coffee, heads to the kitchen and gives her a couple more minutes of rest. And as he heads out the door Mike yells goodbye just loud enough to make her stir. Start to think about getting up. And get started with her day.

But as Mike closes the door, Ashley rolls back over. The kiss wasn’t quite enough. The yell wasn’t quite enough. Because Ashley, after all, isn’t a morning person. So Mike patiently waits. A couple of minutes. Then a few more. And he knows exactly when the time is right. So he picks up the phone and calls Ashley on his way to work. She rolls over. Grabs the phone. And smiles as she whispers hello. It’s the perfect start to her day. Every day. And much better hearing ‘Good morning, I love you’ than a boring old alarm. It’s her favourite moment of the day.

KATIE AND BEN – THE DAY…(photos by yaira)

When they were four years old Ben stole Katie’s bike. Right there on the playground. In front of all of the other kids. And Katie just wasn’t going to have it. She told him right then and there that she didn’t want to be his friend. Loudly. And for everyone to hear.

As the years went on Katie and Ben grew up together. On the same playground. In the same classroom. And in the same circle of friends. But it wasn’t until grade 8 that they went on their first official date. A double date to be exact. With Ben’s parents.

They had the night all planned out and chose the perfect movie to go see. The only problem was that the movie was rated 14A and Katie and Ben were only 13. So Ben’s parents had to come along to make sure they could get in. But once inside the doors there was no way Ben was going to let his parents go into the same theatre as them. Because being 13 and taking your parents along to a movie just wasn’t the cool thing to do. So his parents went to one show. Katie and Ben went to another. And they headed out in separate directions. But again being only 13, they didn’t really have a way to get to a restaurant together after the movie for a romantic meal. So they went with mom and dad to Pizza Hut. Of course, Ben insisted that his parents sit on the very opposite side of the restaurant. Because again, being 13 and taking your parents on your first date just isn’t cool.

After a perfectly romantic evening (with his parents keeping a close eye the entire time), the night drew to a close. As Katie and Ben stood on her doorstep they both just stared at each other. They had known each other since they were 4. Ben had stolen her bike. And she had yelled at him in front of the entire playground. But now for the first time things were different. Katie waited for Ben to kiss her. Ben waited for the porch to swallow him up whole because he was so nervous. And then Katie, being the forward girl that she was, just said it : “Aren’t you going to kiss me goodnight, Ben Wright”. So there it was. There was no going back. And they leaned in to share their first kiss.

They may have been young. But Katie and Ben both knew. That puppy love at 13 was only the beginning of many great things to come.

JENNIFER AND MATT – THE QUESTION…(photos by yaira)

She worked at Cinnabon. He worked at Radio Shack. Side by side every day, they were constantly crossing paths. A quick smile. A polite hello. And they’d continue on with their days.

But as time went on the smiles got a little bit bigger. The hellos turned into a few more words and then a few more sentences. And the glances got a little bit longer. Until one day Matt stopped by the Cinnabon for a chat. Jennifer couldn’t help but notice how sweet he was. He couldn’t help but notice the beautiful girl standing right in front of him. Matt came back day after day claiming he just needed a pop, but really it was to see the pretty girl behind the counter. One morning he worked up every ounce of courage he had, went back to the counter and smiled at her. She thought he just wanted another pop. But as he stood there shuffling his feet and struggling to find the right words, she couldn’t help but get excited. Matt paced back and forth. Hummed and hawed. And finally stammered out an invitation for coffee.

They had worked side by side for so long. Just walking by and catching each others’ eye. Right in that very moment they both knew it was something much more. The connection was instant. And the sparks just flew. They both instantly knew they had found the one.

NATALIE AND RICK – THE DAY…(photos by yaira)

If we’re watching a movie Ewan knows I’ll fall asleep five minutes in. Maybe ten. He’ll gently nudge me awake. Poke at my nose. Or clap really loudly if he’s feeling especially playful. All because he knows I’ll be grumpy if I wake up and realize I’ve missed the entire movie. But without fail I fall asleep again only minutes after being startled awake. So he wraps his arms around me, pulls me close and we sleep away our Sunday afternoon. It’s brief (because with two kids quiet time never last very long). But it’s something we look forward to each week. And one of our very favourite things to do.

As Natalie and Rick start their weekend, they too look forward to their favourite moment. As the morning hours pass and turn into the afternoon, the sun comes through the windows just right. The bed upstairs calls their name. And they feel that drowsy feeling slowly kick in. Only minutes into a movie, Natalie starts to nod off. Without fail, she barely gets past the opening credits. And nuzzles up to Rick. And every time Rick picks up his wife. Carries her to their bed. And curls up beside her. Always snuggled in close. Always to the far left side of the bed. And always with a huge smile on his face. For Natalie and Rick, it’s the moment they look forward to all week long. The one they can’t wait to share together. And most definitely their very favourite.

SARAH AND MITCH – THE DAY…(photos by yaira)

Sometimes a day goes by so quickly. That at the end of it you sit and wonder where it went. What exactly happened. And struggle to remember specific details. But you know it was a good day. A great day. The perfect day. And as the memories slowly come in, you smile and remember everything that made the day so special.

For Sarah and Mitch there isn’t a specific moment. Not a time that jumps out as the favourite part of their wedding day. It was busy. Jam packed. And full of happiness. And every minute was just as enjoyable as the next. They now smile thinking back at the moment they saw each other at the opposite ends of the aisle. Mitch’s eyes filled with tears. Sarah’s face lit up with a smile. When Sarah’s dad handed her over to Mitch and he whispered : “I love you and you look so beautiful”. The minutes they spent alone together before running out of the Church. And looking at each other and realizing that they were husband and wife.

There isn’t one greatest moment. One specific thing that sticks out as the best. Because everything was beautiful on their wedding day. Everything was as they’d always hoped. And better than they’d ever imagined. Every moment was a favourite.
